What Our Students Say

Steven Turner
This program made me get down to the nitty-gritty. Once I got into it [the work], it was like a lightbulb just lit up. It gave me a chance to see where the funding would come from, how to use your capital stack, and just make you look at things from a different perspective. This class was very fruitful, and I appreciate everyone in it.

The Detroit Training Center’s new home is a visionary redevelopment project aimed at transforming the historic St. Andrew’s Monastery into a vibrant community and workforce hub. This iconic property will serve as the new headquarters of the Detroit Training Center (DTC) and include modern office spaces, specialized training facilities, and community resources. The project seeks to merge Detroit's rich history with its dynamic future, fostering job creation, workforce development, and neighborhood revitalization.

With active engagement with the local Castle Rouge community, the DTC looks forward to focusing on the following aspects of the project.

  1. Historic Preservation: Preserve and restore the architectural uniqueness of the monastery, including its chapel and façade, as a tribute to the area’s heritage.

  2. Modern Adaptation: Convert the property into functional spaces tailored for workforce development, training programs, and local business support.

  3. Community Integration: Engage with Castle Rouge neighborhood by offering discounts for training programs, hosting community events, and creating accessible resources.

  4. Sustainability: Incorporate sustainable building practices, including bioswales, tree plantings, and bio-efficient systems, to enhance environmental stewardship.

The ultimate mission at the Detroit Training Center is to provide adults with the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to add value to their communities, families, and themselves. DTC faculty and staff put forth tremendous efforts to uphold this mission to prepare adults for employment and business ownership through customized vocational training and entrepreneurial programming. Each of our courses provide students with in-depth instruction based on real-world experience that sets them up for success.
